Pre-Wet Application Systems

2022 Infrastructure Award Winner
Overhead Spray Systems (OSS)

GVM’s Overhead Spray Systems (OSS) are multifunction liquid deicer dispensing systems designed to pre-wet truck loads of solid de-icing materials. Overhead Spray Systems allow users to pre-wet multiple truckloads with only one dispensing system. Overhead Spray Systems are also capable of loading and unloading truck-mounted pre-wet tanks, returning the de-icing liquids to bulk storage tanks, and draining tanks for end-of-season maintenance.

Pre-Wet Application Systems (PAS)

GVM’s Pre-Wet Application Systems (PAS) are proven solutions to easily and accurately dispense liquids at the spinner to pre-wet granular material before it is applied to roadways. Built on the heaviest duty frames in the industry, GVM’s systems provide extended durability and reliability, allowing users to provide a consistent and superior service. Pre-Wet Application Systems are ideal for Department of Transportation’s, municipalities, townships, and landscapers who are responsible for treating roadways during a snow or ice event. With a variety of sizes and mounting options, these pre-wet systems can be customized to fit virtually any truck.

Pre-Wetting Benefits

  • Increases melting power of salt/sand

  • Reduces salt usage by 33% or more

  • Gets salt to pavement faster

  • Makes the truckload go further

  • Return on setup cost in one season

GVM’s Pre-Wet Application Systems are available with either a hydraulic or electric pump unit, a cab-mounted controller, hot-dipped galvanized steel carrier, weatherproof polyethylene pump housing, and all necessary wiring and plumbing for quick and easy installation. All solution tanks are constructed of rotationally molded, high density, UV stabilized polyethylene, and are designed to hold material with specific gravity of up to 16 pounds per gallon.

  • Accurately and consistently dispenses all common pre-wet liquids

  • Cab mounted controller

  • Hot dip galvanized steel carrier, or optional stainless steel

  • Weather proof polyethylene pump housing

  • Hydraulic or electric pump

GVM Chassis-Mounted Pre-Wet System
Chassis-Mounted

Chassis mounted pre-wet dispensing systems utilize hot dip galvanized steel framing to mount the tank between the cab and the dump body. The pump units for these systems the dump body or between the cab and can be mounted on either the side of the dump body or between the cab and dump body. Chassis mounted systems are available in 60, 90, 120, and 240 gallon sizes.

GVM Frame Mounted Pre-Wet Systems
Frame-Mounted

Frame mounted pre-wet dispensing systems utilize two channel formed, powder coated L-brackets, to mount the tank  directly behind the truck cab and under the dump body. The pump units for these systems are mounted on the side of the dump body. Frame mounted systems are available in 35, 55, 65, and 100 gallon sizes.

GVM Tailgate Mounted Pre-Wet System
Tailgate Mounted

Tailgate mounted pre-wet dispensing systems utilize a hot dip galvanized steel carrier attached to the tailgate to mount the tank and pump system. The hot dip galvanized steel carrier is constructed of hot rolled steel, designed for quick installation and removal from the tailgate. The carrier uses four pull-pins and a lifting eye to facility ease of system installation and/or removal. Tailgate mounted system are available in 30, 70, 100, and 135 gallon sizes.

GVM V-Box Mounted Pre-Wet System
V-Box-Mounted

V-Box mounted pre-wet dispensing systems utilize a hot dip galvanized steel framing to mount the tank to the sloping side of a V-Box hopper. Tanks used in V-box systems have one angled side to closely fit beside the V-Box, without adding extra width to the body. This system can be set up for single or dual tank application. When dual tank application is utilized, the tanks are plumbed together, allowing solution to be evenly drawn from each tank, to maintain an even weight distribution. V-Box mounted systems are available in 30, 60, 70, 100, 140, 200, 280, 400, and 450 gallon sizes, and with the dual tank option, offers a maximum 450 gallon capacity.

Hydraulic vs. Electric Driven Pumps

PAS Series hydraulic driven systems are designed to dispense liquid pre-wet materials with a hydraulic driven pump,  coupled in series to the dry material spreader auger, providing a consistent ratio of liquid to dry material. These systems operate in conjunc-tion with ground speed or manual spreader controls providing a linear chemical flow at vehicle speeds ranging from 3 to 50 miles per hour. They operate in auger reverse without back pressure on the spreader system components. All liquid handling components are resistant to the effects of standard de-icing liquids and have a record of proven reliability.

Additionally, an electric variable speed driven pump designed to apply liquid de-icers to granular material being dispensed from a tailgate mounted spreader could be utilized. The flow rate is then manually adjustable by the operator from the in-cab controls.

Electric driven systems utilize an electric variable speed driven pump designed to apply liquid de-icers to granular material being dispensed from a tailgate-mounted spreader. The flow rate is manually adjustable by the operator from the in-cab controls.

Tank Options

Norwesco, Inc. is the leading North American manufacturer of select rotationally molded polyethylene tanks. Norwesco was founded in 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota with the name of Northwest Plastics, Inc. The name was changed around 1973, and was then was ranked as one of the oldest and largest plastic processors in the United States.

Norwesco maintains the highest levels of product quality and customer service. Their objective is to continue to provide these valued traits to the customer to maintain a position as the industry leader in the polyethylene tank market.

PLEASE NOTE: Tank availability may vary. Tank dimensions and capacities may vary slightly, and are subject to change without notice. Anti-icing systems are available with specific size tanks—call for details or quotes

Vertical Tanks

White or Blue Vertical Storage Tanks are most frequently used for our Pedestal Pre-Wet Systems. Norwesco vertical tanks feature tie-down slots, built-in graduated gallon indicators, an offset fill-opening and a self-vented, slosh-proof lid.

Drainable Leg Tanks

When complete drainage is necessary, you would want to choose these tanks. They are designed primarily for use on fertilizer and chemical nurse trailers.

All Norwesco drainable tanks require full length bottom support as well as support bands!

Horizontal Leg Tanks

Horizontal leg tanks are used primarily for anti-icing applications within the snow industry, Norwesco’s leg tanks feature molded-in legs that act as “baffles” to help to reduce sloshing.
